Engagement sessions are part of the wedding experience, but why choose to have one?

Having an engagement session is a way to celebrate you as a couple. The love you have for each other is special and was developed with your own personal love story that is unique to you. This may also be the last time you get a chance to capture images together before becoming a married couple. These images create great keepsakes to look back on and say "I remember when..." These images capture your essence and serve as a reminder, even without the sentimental love story.

Although some couples opt to omit this part of the wedding photography process, here are some reasons why you SHOULD have an engagement session.

Having an engagement session is one of the best ways to prepare both you and your partner for your wedding day photography. It serves as a pressure free trial run. Gives you both practice time in front of a camera. My clients are all everyday people, most of which have had no experience in front of a camera (selfies, don't count!) This is one reason why this time is so helpful. Without the pressure of a wedding timeline, nerves of the day and guests watching on, you can take the time to feel comfortable and gain confidence in front of a camera.

It is a great way to learn posing!

Learning posing on the wedding day is hard. It takes time away from your family and guests, when you really just want to be celebrating. It can also mean that you don't receive as many portraits from you day. And, we want you to have as many beautiful images as we can get and to be prepared to show off all your modeling skills you acquired during your engagement session. Learning posing before hand gives you confidence that you can do this on your wedding day, and it shows in your final images.

Get to know your photographer!

Spending this time with your photographer is a great way to get to know each other. An engagement session allows everyone to get comfortable with each other. The time spent learning posing and talking to each other builds a connection and trust. Your photographer will be a big part of your wedding day. They are there with you from makeup & hair to party dancing. They cheer for your first kiss, they watch your first dance and witness all the emotions of the day as they celebrate you both along side your closest tribe of family and friends.

So, for those of you on the fence about having an engagement session and whether or not it is important, it is! For both the couple and the photographer.
